About

Vanessa Bittner spins, knits, weaves, and felts small projects from her homegrown Icelandic wool and other natural fibers. She also writes stories that blend her experiences living in foreign lands with in-depth exploration of the natural setting of Northern New York. Wildlife, rivers, roots, branches, and stone walls run through her fiber arts and creative writing.

She enjoys learning human-powered, low-impact skills, and making handmade things that are both functional and beautiful.

Vanessa learned many of her hands-on off-grid living, survival and cooperation skills while studying and working in Russia between the cold and information wars. She has also worked as a translator and interpreter, contributes her ecological mindset to volunteering and her musical ear to playing recorder, flute and keyboards with other amateur musicians.
